When there’s no power, one must get used to the smell of sour milk.

They keep the TV hooked up to a battery, because they still have satellite television. A world that’s prepackaged leaves the few with nothing to do. They don’t listen to the TV, it just provides background noise, like the sitcoms of 30 years ago, or old news broadcasts, or anything else that’s obsolete.

The people left have taken up knitting, or reading, or anything else that doesn’t eat up power. It’s the television that provides them with one of the few luxuries of a long time ago.

If you were to talk to these people, they wouldn’t be in distress. They would not be sad. They would be exactly how you are, because this is the world they’ve lived with their whole lives.

One day, the news came on the television. Someone who was dead now was talking to someone else who was dead. The first one asked if recent events spelled the end of the world, and the other responded accordingly,

“I mean, everybody’s fighting these days. They’re not idiots, they’re simply reacting the way they’ve been reacting since the beginning of time. There’s poverty everywhere, and fewer and fewer people are interested in helping out. They say the fresh meat’s going to run out soon. We’re a j curve species in an s curve world, and nobody wants to take a bullet. If there is an end of the world, it’s probably going on right now.”

The television makes great background noise.

the television represents media, while the protrayal of the narrator's description represents how we are simply brainwashed media monkeys lost in our caged existence. Once the media is shut down, we become slow... slow, in the sense that there is an ordinary living which was always present. It therefore becomes a matter of time and space... they must be balanced, and its done so, only by our own actions.

There's that perfect summarization in the final line - and its true.

Again, this is my opinion about this work. It could hold multiple meanings.

emotional. this is the what i describe this as. it makes me think about a lot of things as well, and i really like this. i'm glad to see you posting a lot of different things--it makes me happy, in a way. if that makes sense. i like seeing your work in my deviantwatch and i love reading it. i'm sure i've suggested this before, but you need to publish a book of your works.
